Advice on moving from Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona?

Advice on moving from Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona?
I will be graduating from college in June 2009. I'll have a Bachelors in both Marketing and Management from a good business school. I'm trying to find out how much money -- and any advice I can get on moving from Michigan to Chandler, Arizona. I do have a step brother in Chandler that I could stay with temporarily until I find a job. I'll be 24 years old and plan on packing everything up I can in my car and driving cross country.

get a job close to your house(or wherever you're staying) because traffic is bad in pheonix(believe me i lived there). lots of great food there ppl are kinda nice..... my fav restaraunt has to be macayos...mexican food hope that helped

2
lived in owosso mi. best advice, throw away most of the winter wear, it does get cold in the desert at nite but not like a winter in mi, buy a really good car ,and a snakebite kit.

3
Arizona does not appreciate east coast education. It is better to stay on the east coast to find a job in your area. If you had graduated from ASU, then Arizona is a great place to make your start, otherwise, I recommend Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. These places are best.

Very True Soul 4 Real!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To many come wanting to make AZ like the state they left. I 4 1 have more use for illegals then people moving here wanting to changs us

Alright first you gotta know that Arizona is a beautiful place! But its very different then Michigan. First off in many parts of Arizona it DOESN'T snow (so give away most of your winter clothes except the pants or jackets)... except if you go to Flagstaff or Williams. Prepare for the heat in the summer because every year we can go well above 110 degrees so pack a lot of shorts. Other than that enjoy Arizona! :D Hope you have a great time moving here! YAY for another citizen of Arizona! Also traffic on our freeways such as the I-10 get crowded quickly so if you do have a morning job then I suggest you get up really early!

I'm thinking of relocating to Tucson or Phoenix, Arizona and would appreciate some help with resources, etc.
I currently live in Asheville, NC, but would like to move out west before the turn of the new year. I'm looking for information on the two cities -- especially matters of GLBT community and culture. City reviews, ease of moving, culture and community, schools of natural based healing, etc. would be so much appreciated.

What is it exactly that you want to know? I live in phoenix. Tucson is more a University city. Phoenix is more a business city. They are completely different. I've lived in both. Rent is cheaper in Tucson. Around 650 a month when in Phoenix is about 850 a month (at least) in a decent place, not fancy not in the dangerous area of the city.

Hi, I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago, and love living in Phoenix. I would try the Phoenix website www.Phoenix.gov. Also, my neighborhood had a street fair earlier this year, and I think one of the city agencies was giving out a book titled "Where to live in Phoenix". I was surprised they were giving it away, since it looked like something you might buy at a bookstore, had an ISBN number/bar code on it, and a retail value of $24.95. Write a note to the city and see if they can give you one. It's really a good book, because it encompasses the entire metro area (known as "the valley") and talks about what makes each of the suburbs unique. As for GLBT info, may I suggest Echo Magazine. Its website is www.Echomag.com and is published bi-weekly. It also has a community resources section, and a number of realtors advertise in it. Healthcare is big business here, and so is associated fields related to the body, such as massage therapy, spas, and beauty colleges.

What Bob Phx said. If you do not have a job, the first thing is GET AN Arizona drivers license and Arizona plates for your car. I used to do hiring & firing, if the person was NOT a resident of AZ for six months with those items, I would not consider them ,no matter how qualified. Your not going to like summers. You may think NC is hot, you ain't seen nothin yet for hot. We visited in July (from Michigan) before deciding we could cope with the heat. Don't let "median" temperatures fool you-for months the low at night MAY be 94 F....daytime days on end over 112-115.

4
I've been here 2 years and why anyone from NC would want to move here is beyond me. It's extremely hot, extremely crowded, high crime everywhere, ridiculous traffic, terrible drivers, etc. Tuscon is the lesser of 2 evils. I wish I was back in the country. It's just going to get worse here.

Pros and cons of Phoenix, Arizona?

Pros and cons of Phoenix, Arizona?
I currently live in Colorado Springs and have lived here almost my entire life. I don't like it here, i hate the cold, as well as any type of precipitation. I'm considering moving to Phoenix to attend school. What are the pros and cons of this town?

Pros: Fun, fun, fun city....lots to do, lots of college age folks. Cons: Hot, hot, hot city....CRAZY hot. You will have fun at School in Phoenix.....good luck!! ;)

2
move to tempe....go to asu, its a good college town area, phx is wack, lived there for a few months and i thought i was going to go crazy, its awful...a def con is the heat, dry unbearable heat (even if you hate the cold, trust me, phx heat is too much), another con is the night life, yet another con is the distance you have to drive to get anywhere.... tempe has a good night life/bar scene....good luck...

3
well your gonna have to look forward to the heat which hits over 100 degrees, one up side is if you are going to buy a house out in az you can get a lot for your money.

4
I live north of Phoenix and it gets hot. In the summer we get monsoon storms but it only last between July and August not bad temps get high but it a "dry heat" don't get all sticky like some other states. The traffic can be bad but like any large city. Phoenix has a lot to offer job wise and fun wise. We have sports and lots of concerts and shows that come here. I would say most winters its not too cold a sweatshirt is most of the time all you would need, if you miss the cold the snow is only about 2 1/2 hours away

5
i move to Phoenix from South DAkota to escape the cold winters an d i m ready to move back, It HOT, the cost off living is high from SD, and everything is a Rush, the traffic is terrible, and people are rude! not all, but the majority, i moved with my family, I suppose if it were only me it might be diffrent, maybe even fun.

6
My family moved there in '84. They wouldn't think of coming back to Michigan until September to get some tomatoes. Lots of stuff to do in the Phoenix area. Beautiful. Just don't go to the south side or Sky Harbor airport neighborhoods.Lots of illegals there. Crazy drivers in Phoenix. They will honk at you for NOT running a red light!! Great downtown, Scotsdale, Mesa. You would like it. My wife would never move. I would've if I could've!!

7
Everyone has been moving here, so besides being extremely hot and over 110 degrees lately (and it will get hotter than that in the next couple of months) it is very crowded, the traffic is horrible, there's lots of crime, etc. But there is a lot to do in the area.

How do I become a resident of California If i live in Phoenix?

How do I become a resident of California If i live in Phoenix?
Hi, I'd like to know how to become a resident of California. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I want to attend a school in California, MI, and it says to qualify for loans, I have to be a resident of California. How would I become a resident? Do I have to live their for a year??? I hope I dont, and if I do, can I still qualify for the loans if I live there, but havn't been living there for a year? Please help, thanks.

For school purposes you must live about a year in the State to be consider a cAlifornia resident. You might be able to qualify for loans and scholarships as a non-resident of the state, but I do not know if the school is going to charge more fees for not being a resident. So, the loan might not cover the full amount. Another thing you can do to get the resident status is-if you are not independent- whomever is living with you and supporting you can claim the residency part. For instance, if you are living with your dad in Arizona, but move in with your mom in California, as long as she has been living in CA for at least a year and she supports you, she can request for you to be consider a resident of CA. Hope it helps.

2
Yes you have to live here for a year prior to your date of application to college. If you know someone here you can say you have been living here and use their address, as long as it does not clash with your being in Arizona during that time.

3
While there is a California Township in Michigan, my guess is that the "MI" is a misprint, or something, since there is no school there. I guess you are interested in the State of California. If you are under 18, your residence is that of your parents. If you are 18 or over, just living in CA as a student is NOT going to make you a resident for tuition purposes. At a minimum, unless you are married or 24 years old, you will have to prove financial independence from your parents. Check out this site, and be sure to follow the links for further information: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/ca_residency.html However, for other purposes you may be a resident (if 18 or over) if you demonstrate an intent to remain in CA permanently and not return to AZ. BTW, claiming that you lived in California when you did not would be fraud and/or perjury. I don't recommend it.

How can I get the cheapest flights to Phoenix from Detroit?

How can I get the cheapest flights to Phoenix from Detroit?
My friends and I want to go to Phoenix, Arizona on either Christmas break or after school ends at the beginning of June (even though it would be very hot). When could we get the cheapest flights from Detroit, Michigan? I was hoping to find a flight for under $300 round trip. If we can't find a flight for under that, where else do you suggest we could go that we could fly to inexpensively, besides Las Vegas? Thanks!

US Airways has a hub in Vegas and Northwest has a hub in Detroit. United and American might be cheap as well.

Arizona is not a state I think of when I think of good schools for graduate degrees. Throw a dart at the map of the US, and you are likely to hit a state with at least one school that is better than anything in Arizona. Aim for the East Coast, and you are likely to hit a state with several schools that are better. That being said, University of Arizona is the best university in the state. There are a few programs -- like Business -- where ASU is better.

It's very hot here! Some areas are really nice and some are not good neighborhoods just like anywhere else The people are pretty friendly and mostly city but I live in Scottsdale and I'm not completely a city person because I was born in Minnesota but there are definitely people who are stuck up here but there are people like that everywhere. And I'm sure you'll hear a lot of teenagers say how much they love California and stuff and want to move there..it gets old because I'd never want to live in California but its pretty normal here. A lot of people have moved here from the east coast and midwest so youll probably find some people you have somethign in common with! Dont worry! Good Luck :)

You managed to find the two bigots on here to answer your question. You didn't say what part of town you will be moving to, but I think that you will find that Phoenix is just like any other big city. I'm not sure why you are concerned about race but Arizona is made up of a very diverse population of Caucasian, Latino, Native American, African American and many Asian people as well. Arizona is a lovely place to live, it's just like most big cities in that it has a lot to offer, but it's also made up neighborhoods where you are able to find most things within five-ten miles of your home. It's always tough to start a new school, particularly when you are a senior in high school. I would recommend that you join clubs, try out for athletics or if you like drama do the school plays. The more things you join the more people you can connect with. Good luck and enjoy Phoenix!

No offence but anyone who lets a random strager off the internet babysit there child must literally be insane. Maybe you could try putting up some notices in your local supermarket or doing a flyer drop in your area. Also word of mouth is usually the best method. Ask your teacher if she knows of anyone who may be looking for a sitter, or even spread the word with other teachers. I know that personally would never leave my daughter with a stranger.

I doubt it is that easy unless there are a few of you capable of doing the subjects, I'd speak to a careers person or start contacting other schools to try to find one that offers it. When you do find one ask them if they can offer any assistance with travel costs. You might find some sort of scholarship you can sit for that can help with this.

2
Your school must be approved as an IB world school before teaching any IB courses. If you really want to have IB in your school: 1. See if there are other students in your school that would be interested. I doubt your school would be willing to spend thousands of dollars to train teachers and provide the courses if not too many students are interested. 2. Talk to your school officials (like your principal) about it, and have them apply to become a candidate and get evaluated. http://www.ibo.org/diploma/become/ 3. If your school gets accepted after evaluation, teachers that will be teaching the courses will have to go through training. An IB coordinator will also be appointed at your school, whom will be in charge of all things IB related there.

Yeah im moving down there and im trying to go to college at devry. Which is located in either San diego or Phoenix az.. but since i need to live where i can afford food and rent i have to live in mexico for now and go to school in either of these cities so please tell me which one is closer. Also im pretty young im gonna turn 18 so it would help if anyone knew how much rent is down there or living an average life with a spouse would cost down in mexicali. San Diego, is closer to Mexicali that Phoenix. San Diego is about 60 miles. Phoenix is about double that distance. Rent, when I lived in that area, was about 100 dollars a month. That was quite a while ago, so you might want to make a visit to Mexicali, and ask around about available apartments and rental price. Unless you are a Latino who speaks Spanish from childhood, you can expect to pay "Gringo prices" on everything. If they know your income is from this side of the border, they will raise the price on you, just because they think you are rich. If you are planning on a wife from Mexico, expect to have to keep her expenditures in line, and do not allow her to handle the money. At least not until she learns that your money has limits. Poor people who are not accustomed to having larger sums of money, tend to think they are rich, and spend the money less frugally than they should. Next thing you know, money that should have lasted you all month, is gone in a few days. Also, if you try to buy things in quantities, to save money, a Mexican spouse will think that there is an unlimited amount of that thing and start giving it away to friends and/or family. You will have to shop around for other prices on almost everything. Some things will be cheaper for you to pick up at a major grocery store chain in San Diego, other things will be cheaper in Mexicali. Also, if you have not lived in that area, you are going to learn a new meaning for the word HOT. Summers are nasty hot down there, averaging around 125 degrees Fahrenheit 2 months out of the year.

I would go with a no for now unless you do REALLY WELL on your MCAT...

2
My answer it is too early to know because admission to medical school depends on your grades at university as your high school grades are irrelevant. With that said if you were to make a competing argument that high school grades are predictor of future success then my answer would be you need to ensure that your grades stabilize and you do not have wide swings in your semester GPA. Based on using your grades for predicting future success I would say you are in danger of not being accepted.

3
Med school comes after college, Mick. You have 6 more years of schooling before you'll be ready to study medicine.

4
The short answer is yes, it is possible. Just try to hone your study habits right now in high school, so you will be prepared for college. Your four years in college and MCAT scores will determine if you can achieve your medical school dream. Study hard now!
