Transferring credits from online school?

Transferring credits from online school?
I am currently a student at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Arizona, but I am taking online courses through the Mesa Distance Learning Program due to the fact that I started school late because I moved to Phoenix after school had already started. Well now I’m going back to live in Denver, Colorado and I’m wondering if my credits will transfer. I have acquired a total of one credit from Geometry and English (both ½ a credit each). I have not been able to take Science or any other classes due to time constraints. How will this prepare me to be a student at Mountain Range High School in Denver? How will I take Science, Social Studies, etc. when I’ll be starting school halfway through the school year? I would love to finish out the school year taking online courses but am worried that my credits won’t transfer next year when I will start regular school. Can someone please explain how I will resume school at MRHS if I haven’t taken all of the required classes and if my credits from online school will transfer? Thank you!

What would be a good comedic book/novel/movie that could become a musical?

What would be a good comedic book/novel/movie that could become a musical?
I am fifteen and found out that Legally Blonde the Musical was written and created by a student at Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Arizona. (Yeah Arizona!) Anyway, I've decided to attempt to write another big hit musical based off either a movie, book, short story or even an idea. Please tell me some-but make them fairly short and available to the public/me to be reviewed and edited. Thanks!

Go rent 'The Producers'. It'll show you that anything can be turned into a musical - maybe not a GOOD musical....but a musical all the same :-)

2
How about the book: Better off famous?-that question mark is part of the title It's about a girl who wants to go to julliard to play the violin. She's 16 and she doesn't get a drivers license or get into julliard. However, a producer asks her to audition for his new show, Country Day, and she gets the role. Her whole life gets turned around-read the book you'll want it as a musical trust me!! How about Enchanted-but with more songs?? That could work!! OMG OMG OMG you could do 13 going on 30!! How perfect would that be? THE MOVIE: ANASTASIA-it would be soooo great and that song: Once Upon a December is just so perfect!! Do Anastasia!! Julia

My dad gave me this idea and I think he's right: "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" would make a great musical. It's already got all the characters, comedy and music built in, so it would be so easy to make it into a musical. But I don't know how much you'd have to pay for the rights. And you're a high school student?? You'd have to pay for the rights for just about any movie or book, so I don't know how you'd do that.

OK...visit this link to search for a team in your area. http://usaswimming.org/usasweb/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=503&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en Enter: * Phoenix for city * Arizona Swimming for Local Swimming Committee and hit enter. You'll get several teams in the areal and can view where they are and what their website/contact information is. Contact the teams and see which one will work best for you based on reputation, cost, and schedule. And the coach is correct...you should definitely see some improvement.

I need help on what to do after High School?

I need help on what to do after High School?
Well im currently here in San Bernardina CA. And im a high school junior and I want to go to a good university to study law. I want to become a lawyer but, I don't know where to go and to what university i should enroll in. I am going to move to Phoenix Arizona and I was wondering what universities in Phoenix offer a good program for my interests in becoming a lawyer. If you can please help me I would really appreciate it thanks.

A good lawyer should have a broad academic background- so you have a wide choice of fields when it comes to picking a major. History, Lit, Political Science- any of the Liberal Arts fields would be excellent. So too would things like psychology, sociology, Anthropology; your critical thinking/analytical abilities are what matter more than the field of study. So long as you like it and do well, you will stand a good chance of passing the LSAT adn getting into law school. I say these things because though you have a clear goal (which is great) it is not always wise to be too narrowly focused at this stage of the game. Once in college- who knows!? You may find another path that is even more fulfilling/appealing! And these days, having 2 or more "real" careers in your lifetime is more and more the norm (and more fun)!

I live in Arizona, and I want to become a Petroleum Geologist. What school should I go to?
I live in Phoenix, and ASU recently stopped offering Geological Sciences as a BS and now all they have is the Earth and Space Exploration degree with a concentration in geological sciences. I would much prefer to stay in Phoenix, but I could move to Tucson and go to U of A. If I did that, would the Geosciences or the Geological Engineering degree give me better opportunities? HELP!

Yes, Go to the U of A Good luck I don't think that there is anything in the Pheonix area for you The University of Texas, Permian Basin has a good mining school http://www.utpb.edu/utpb_adm/academicaffairs/collegeofartscience/DeptofPhysicalSciences/deptsofphysicalsciences.htm And there is a good one in NM, I think it's the NM Institure of Mining and Technology http://www.ees.nmt.edu/

I'm a Geological Sciences professor at ASU and I thank you for your question. The first thing I'd like to point out is that the new BS ESE degree/Geological Sciences concentration at ASU is still completely a Geological Sciences degree--all of the important core courses are still there. We made changes to the degree primarily to give ASU students more flexibility in focusing on a specific major, and to allow students to take better advantage of the broad range of geoscience expertise offered by faculty in the School of Earth and Space Exploration. The most important geological components of the earlier degree are all still there and you are still studying Geology! Just ask any of our majors--or, more tellingly, see where they go after they graduate. The second thing I'd like to note is that to become a professional Petroleum Geologist, you will need to earn a Master's Degree after completing your BS degree. The BS degree is not a terminal degree for this field--its principal function is to prepare you for graduate study in your chosen field. And I can assure you that the ASU BS degree will prepare you for Masters study in Petroleum Geology just as well as BS degrees from other quality institutions like UA, UT, and NMTech. So you don't have to leave the Valley if you don't want to. Please feel free to contact me or other professors via the ASU SESE website (sese.asu.edu) if you have further questions. Thanks Prof. Steve Semken

I have no money and need to move myself and my children to Texas from phoenix Arizona next week?

I have no money and need to move myself and my children to Texas from phoenix Arizona next week?
Hello, I have been living with my mother since my split with my husband. Me and her are not getting along in fact she has already thrown me and my kids out once. A friend of mine who I have known since grade school, was kind enough to offer to let me live with her, at her home in Longview Texas. I have absolutely no money, and two small boys who are my life, I also have one dog that needs to move with me...I have very few possessions, but a little more than i could take with me on a greyhound bus. I cannot leave anything behind, because what i do have is necessities for my children and myself. Can anyone please let me know of any organizations, or assistance programs in phoenix arizona i can possibly get help getting moved to Texas, sometime next week. This is a dire emergency, I really need the help and don't know who to call for help....thank you for your answers I am 25, my boys are under five years of age, i have asked all my friends, and all my family, my mother is being totally insane and throwing me and her grandkids out because i dont like the way she treats them...so she would never give me a vehicle, and anyway I cant drive! and even if i could borrow a car, i couldnt afford the gas to get there....but again i cant drive..... Look, I want to go to Texas from Arizona, im already in Arizona. My friend in Texas offered because she has a large home, and two kids of her own *twins*, she loves children and grew up in a very large family so i dont think my kids will be an issue. I have a job waiting for me in Texas, I am not lazy and I currently am working but gave my notice due to this move. I am neither drinking or on drugs thank you! I havent messed with anything like that since i was a teenager. My dog will be in my friends backyard with her dog, so my dog wont be a problem either. Basically this a roomate situation, I will be paying her rent and supporting myself there, just need to get there! I am not lazy nor am i freeloading off my mother. I left my ex husband who beat me and hit my eldest son one time, and that day i called my mom and told her i was coming to arizona. Everything that me and my children use, eat, or wear is payed for by me...without a dime of child support from my deadbeat ex, and my mother doesnt pay my way either. I wont be leaching off of my friend, nor am i putting my "Mess" onto someone else....My mother is upset with me because i confronted her for her constant screaming at her grandson, and my mother fighting with my step dad constantly, and they will fight when the kids are in the room, im constantly having to stay in my room because i dont want my children exposed to more violence after what they just went through with thier dad. My children have no friends here, because thier father kept us locked in the house for five long years, and was extreemly controlling. This is a step up in the best interest of my childrens welfare. oh yeah, by the way the only family i have here in Arizona is my mom and distant cousins. The rest of my family is in texas, or other states. My friends cant drive me to texas not because they dont want to, its because they cant work around their work and college schedules to make time, otherwise they would take me in a heartbeat. I have spoken with my mother numerous times about trying to settle our differences in a calm and rational manner, but she refuses to work for a mutually agreeable solution to this argument between us. She is not mad at me for freeloading, which i dont do; in fact i have been paying her mortgage, cleaning her house, and even at times doing her own job for her on top of mine *she works from home*. I am a college educated woman, that payed my own way through school cause my mom was too broke, she spent her money shopping. I take excellent care of my children, in fact total strangers remark on how well behaved my kids are, and how polite they are. I dont know where some of you got the notion that I was some white trash, podunk, freeloadin bitch, livin on welfare and mama, and draggin my kids around....That is the polar oppiset of who i am. I am a hard working and independant woman. I was a stay at home mom for five years, and devoted myself to my kids *my husband wouldnt let me work*, since moving down here i immediatly got a job, and supported myself and payed my mothers bills as thank you for allowing me to stay with her. She told me to move in here, and when i told her i found an apartment, she flipped out saying i couldnt move out. I have severe back problems and could be living on disability but i'd rather work, and earn my way through life....so please before you judge try to be more understanding, and find out about a person before you slander them.

shyt cant u have your frend drive u? or barrow his/her car or u can POSIBLY get good with your mom again and barrow her car how old r the kids im 13 and im saving up to go see my Gma and bros and sis's MILES away from me. good luck tho if the kids are old enough then they could possibly help pay if not then im srry (iv ALWAYS helped my mom work ever since VERY yung childhood) good luck one this one

4
Being logical your friend will only take you for a few weeks to come to the realization that your kids are a pain in the butt and your dog is unnecessary in her house. She will not keep you long. You are better staying close to your family so they can help in an emergency. Find the father of your kids their grandparents! Be practical stay in Texas you already know the people, where everything is, you know were to find work. Moving to Arizona is another one of your mistakes. You have a lot of explaining to do to your kids. Let them keep their friends too. Use the following source, and stop drinking and using drugs.

5
Why don't you just go to a shelter. You need to stand on your own 2 feet. living with someone else just gets awful. You don't need to move all the way to Texas just to get a job. Do it right here in Az. You have no money because you have no job. I am sure if you sat your mom down and talked to her you could work something out. there are plenty of jobs in Phx. Plenty of single parents do it everyday. My mom moved us 4 girls to Phx from Mass. She had 3 waitress jobs. No child support. It was hard...but she did it.

6
What about a sense of pride? What about a sense of urgency about providing for your children? Quit being a wart on the butt of society and step up to the obligations you have taken on. There is probably a good reason your mother has had enough of you. Take a long hard look at your situation. Since you have been with your mother as a freeloader what have you done to get your life together? If you can't support your family and are not actively working toward taking care of that problem please don't be a burden to your friend, the only one left to put up with your BS. Get the dog a new home and the kids too if you have no intention of being a mother to them. They deserve more. It would be easy for people to get you hooked up with some charity or someone you can snow into taking care of your mess. The best help is getting you to realize that you have more opportunity than a huge percentage of the people in this world and you are asking for someone else to make it all happen. Be thankful for whatever you do have and be responsible. If you insist on making the move wait until you can afford to do so without being a burden to your friend. That will be very temporary.

What can you tell me about the school system in Arizona?

What can you tell me about the school system in Arizona?
I am going to college in Kansas near Kansas City, and I have my heart set to move to Scottsdale, Arizona, around the Phoenix area. My cousin lives there, and I love it! I've heard that the curriculum in Arizona (in grade, middle, and high schools) isn't that good, especially compared to Kansas and other midwestern states. But, I've also heard that the schools are improving. Can you tell me anything about that? I am looking in to teaching history at a high school level.

Good luck to you. The schools in Arizona are underfunded, pay teachers poorly, and class sizes are large. There is a lawsuit regarding the poor response to standardized tests; here is a quote: In the lawsuit, Plaintiffs allege that the state’s school funding system is arbitrary and not based on educational need. Plaintiffs allege Arizona ranks near the bottom in most national educational rankings; Arizona is next to last in school funding; Arizona ranks fourth from the bottom in teacher/student ratio; Arizona class sizes are above the national average; and Arizona’s dropout rate is high. http://www.lawhelp.org/Program/729/RTF1.cfm?pagename=Challenge+to+AIMS+Test+ The first year that the standardized tests were required was 2006, not much improvement has been made since then. Hope this helps

Your best bet is to go to each school's web site to make comparisons on what features you are looking for in a school. But, you shoudl also include your parents on the decision on what school you want to enroll in. If you want to academically compare one school against the other, you can go to the state Dept. of Ed. page to see how each school ranks against the other: www.ade.state.az.us Best of luck to you.

Your best bet is to get the newspaper and see what's out there! The other person that talked about Shellcash is correct in that it's a scam along with all those other work from home offers so don't fall for them!!!!!! I don't believe she is correct about the person who owns it, Francis Nwajei. I did a google search & went to the FBI site and put his name in and it came back with nothing. So don't believe what people write on here until you check it out yourself! Good Luck!!!!!!!

Call the school. Ask for a list. Schools differ on what they need.

2
this is not the appropriate place to ask - there are hundreds of thousands of schools in the US, and millions worldwide- finding the dozen or so people online who have that list is ridiculous. Call the school.

3
Most stores like Walmart and Target will have copies of supplies lists for each school district or even sometimes each school in the area, or you can call the school.

Is it Possible to go to School in Austin or Phoenix without a Car?

Is it Possible to go to School in Austin or Phoenix without a Car?
I'm not going to be able to take my car with me when I transfer out of state from Richmond,Virginia. I am looking at schools out of state and would like to work, live and go to school in either downtown Phoenix, Arizona or Austin, Texas. Is it possible to live without a car in either cities and still have a fun life. A lot of college students here in Richmond don't have cars so they have to make friends with people with cars, and/or only work, play and live downtown. Also in Richmond there are lots of jobs, and leisure activities downtown and we are a city of only over 200,000. So, aren't I right in assuming downtown Austin and Phoenix will have even more opportunities for young non-drivers? * I will be living on campus only for a while as well.

yes actually! I went to school in Austin for a few years without a car and had no problems. Now I live in Tempe (right next to Phoenix) and still have no car and I do fine. Sometimes it's a hassle trying to deal with the busses, but it's not too bad. I'd say in Austin it's probably easier and more reliable to use public transportation than in Phoenix though. Austin is also more college student friendly, downtown Phoenix is kinda sketchy.

Wher can I find a job in Sacramento, California or Phoenix, Arizona?
Yeah well I know I am underage , (14 years young) but I need some money because I am going to High School and want to purchase a brand new wardrobe. I might go to Phoenix, Arizona in the summer if I can find a job down there. What stores hire, family restraunts? The reason I asked myself instead of reading other answers is because al I've seen is babysitting, mowing lawns, stuff like that. Thats great and all but I am looking to get out the house and a paycheck that is guaranteed. Babysitting can be here one day and gone the next. Which stores are hiring, do I need a work permit. I can't be a mother's helper (she doesn't have money either) Give me the names of the stores? summer jobs 14+ no sarcasm Also please, no cashbox.com or quickcash.com or any of that stuff, just local jobs willing to pay 14 year olds only!

Advice on massage therapy schools in phoenix?

Advice on massage therapy schools in phoenix?
I am considering going to school for massage therapy, and am comparing different schools in the area. Is anybody a massage therapist that went to school in this area that can tell be a bit about their experience? Or perhaps list some of the pros and cons of the field in general, or the schools here? I am looking at cortiva institute and the arizona school of massage therapy
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1
Cortiva is a big conglomeration who is taking over the massage profession and buying up all the smaller privately owned massage schools. If they bought a local school and that school also keeps it's integrity - it will be a good school but for the most part Cortiva is too driven by money and getting anyone to become a massage therapist rather than screening people to find out if they are a match for a career in massage. The best way to compare schools is to go in and talk to the teachers, sit in classes, talk to students, talk to graduates and go in and get a massage in their student clinic and see for yourself how each school feels. What is good for one person may not work for others so going on personal recommendations doesn't always work.

2
I have attended the Utah College of Massage Therapy which is the same school. I have heard though that it has changed a lot. Very important, before you decide on a school, find out about the different techniques they are teaching and how many hours for each technique. If they are teaching you 15 different techniques in a short period of time, then you might want to consider another school. Also watch for class-room size, the smaller the class the better. After you graduate, you are not done. Find your niche. What do you prefer? The mechanical massage or energy work. Follow your intuition. Don't chase the money. People will sense that and you won't become successful. Watch your body mechanics. It is important to stretch after a full day of work and keep good body posture. If you keep that in mind you will not have any health issues caused by massage therapy.

Moved here (Phoenix) when I was 2 from Boston. I have to say I miss it (I visit often) but I love Phoenix! Plenty to do during the summer, heat is nice when you have a pool. Plus, we don't get any threats from earthquakes or tornadoes, things like that. It's just a generally great place to be.

3
well its hot as hell lol and i live on 63rd & thomas wich is west side if yew dont like gangs & drugs then i suggest scottsdale, thats were all the white ppl at phoenix will get yo ass tore up if yew aint from there but i wouldnt live anywhere else :]

4
Phoenix kicks ass, yea it gets really hot but as long as you're around a body of water ( lakes, pools, waterparks), its really not to bad. I have lived in phoenix since i was 6 months and its really not so bad when you're used to it. I lived on the west side off of 71st ave and camelback and also of 63rd ave and thomas it's not so bad, but scottsdale is ,more of the richy people and west side is rougher, but as long as you arent some prissy you should be fine. I live in centraql phoenix now but i miss the west side so much, its my side and no matter where i live i will always consider it home there. And there are lots of different religions out here, it doesnt mean you have to be into it. just watch out for the jehovah witnesses they get annoying sometimes, but i havent had to deal with them lately.

5
It's not religious if you aren't religious. It just depends where you put yourself. I have been here since I was 21, and I"m 25 now. I have found it slightly hard to find a "close group" of friends; there are a lot of shallow people around here. The summers are hot, just sit in a sauna at your local YMCA for a few minutes and that's what you'll experience for a few months. But the rest of the year it's nice. In the winters, I think it actually gets pretty chilly. Phx is a big, small city. At first, it'll seem like a large city but after you roll around and get to know people in different parts, it really isn't that big at all. You'll find yourself seeing people you know when you're out and about; and since a majority of the people are from the midwest, everyone is pretty nice. Like any other city, it has its ghetto areas, but if you don't hang out in those parts of town, you really don't notice it much. Moving here after HS to go to college? If so, I'd recommend living in the dorms the first year. You'll find it hard to afford an apartment without working, and school will take up most of your time so it'll be hard to work to earn that money to pay for everything .Arizona can get real expensive real fast, especially with gas. Gas may go down and get cheap but Phx is a VERY spread out city and before you know it, you'll find yourself driving 20-25 miles just to one place and there goes your gas in a hurry. Also, dorms are a great way to meet people. IF you plan on drinking before you're 21, AZ has some of the toughest laws in the nation when it comes to drinking and driving so mind that as well. Good luck to you

dooo not come here. ive been living in phoenix for 8 years and its sooo boring specially for teenagers and people that wanna goo out. when u first come ull be okay with it but when uve lived here for a year or 2 ull regret moving her becus theres never anything new barely any funn places to go i wish i cud move somewhere else and its REALLLY hot during the summer and during winter its not that cold its only chilly in the morning and usually the sun comes up around 10 a.m and its good

What can children ages seven to 12 do after school to stay out of trouble?

What can children ages seven to 12 do after school to stay out of trouble?
there are children this age group just tearing up my apartment complex out of sheer boredom when they get home from school every day. Where can I send them that they would enjoy going to,that dont cost a lot of money. Any ideas? These kids are killing me. They're not bad kids, they just don't have any supervision, and their parents do not discipline them. We live in phoenix Arizona, are there any adult supervised clubs or REC Centers or ???

music school, childcare centers where they organise lots of after-school activities for children, sports (basketball, soccer, football, roller-blading, ice-skating etc.) if they are delinquents, call the social workers or police.

I will give you a little insider tip. I work at MedPro (Medical Professional Associates of AZ) and we are actually the one who staffs the county hospital. Like the doctors work at the hospital but they get their paychecks and benefits through us. We have 11 departments- such as OB, Psych, Radiology, Pediatrics, etc. You could check out the website www.medprodoctors.com and maybe email one of the department administrators (DAs) about any possible job opportunities. The DA's are really cool so one of them might be inclined to give you a shot and get you in the hospital under our doctors, I know we hire nurses too, not just MDs. Most people don't know about my company, good luck :)

Move to Phoenix Arizona?

Move to Phoenix Arizona?
My children and I are thinking about moving to the Phoenix Arizona area. The cost of living is awesome and we can live nice for a low price. What area in Phoenix is the safest area to raise kids? I know Arizona has alot of crime but I am sure there are some safer areas to raise kids and be for the most part safe. I want to send my kids to a great school district too.

Phoenix is a large metropolitan area with Phoenix being the 5th laragest city in the country plus numerous connecting suburbs. It can take two hours to drive from one area in the southeastern part of the metropolitan area toone in the northwestern part. Therefore you need to live near your place of employment. Northern part of Glendale and Phoenix are nice with gated areas and I also really like the Queen Creek area with its beautiful scenery and amazing home values. There are pockets of crime everywhere so you really need a realtor to help you zero in on the best place for you and your children to live.

2
I hate answering questions after Pepper. She usually nails the answers. All I can do is tell you that Cave Creek and Scottsdale are safe areas and have the 7th and 6th ranked school districts in the state. Just to help yourself a little more check the demographics and crime stats for these cities which make up the Phoenix Metro area: Buckeye Goodyear Avondale Tolleson Glendale Peoria Surprise Cave Creek Scottsdale Tempe Gilbert Chandler Mesa I'm sure I missed a few.

3
Um then you should move to any of the 47 better public school system states. I'm not joking, AZ is ranked 48 out of 50 in public school systems, they are awful. And it's cheap cost of living because it sucks. #1 for kidnapping in the country, #1 for car theft in the country, no gun laws or licenses anyone can have a gun on them. My boyfriend lives in a very nice neighborhood and his house was broken into. Do a little more research before you bring children here, obviously cheap is not always the best option.

There is no jobs, I repeat no jobs right now, I was reading on what states are the worse in the economy right now, and Arizona and Nevada are at the top of the list. Arizona and Nevada both too, pay the least of most states even for skilled workers. Id find a better place maybe a state that is union to get better pay. Watch for workers needed to clean up in North Dakota after their flood, there will be money to be made for proably a year, good money. Sad its because of the flood, but they will need people desperately.

2
Hey Frank, Skilled trades jobs are hard to come by right now. I know. I've been a roofer for 33 years and this is the toughest time I' been through. I've never had a hard time getting a job. But right now I wouldn't want to try. The company I work for has downsized from 9 employees to 3. But we had to take a wage cut and lose our benefits. I live in N. Cal. and the unemployment rate is at 10 1/2 % right now. Most companies don't want to hire apprentices as the cost of workers comp is too high. California and Arizona are pretty much on the same scale, although I've heard Arizona may still have some construction going on. Good Luck! johnny b

A good place to search would be Babolat.com for their nearest stores (they have a part of their website is a store finder) but even then you can go to a "dicks sporting goods" or "sports authority" and find a ok O3 racquet..

3
You live in a desert, because you can buy it anywhere online or at your local sport store. Oh tennis racquets can go from $15 to $300, depending on your skill level.

Advice on moving from Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona?

Advice on moving from Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona?
I will be graduating from college in June 2009. I'll have a Bachelors in both Marketing and Management from a good business school. I'm trying to find out how much money -- and any advice I can get on moving from Michigan to Chandler, Arizona. I do have a step brother in Chandler that I could stay with temporarily until I find a job. I'll be 24 years old and plan on packing everything up I can in my car and driving cross country.

2
lived in owosso mi. best advice, throw away most of the winter wear, it does get cold in the desert at nite but not like a winter in mi, buy a really good car ,and a snakebite kit.

3
Arizona does not appreciate east coast education. It is better to stay on the east coast to find a job in your area. If you had graduated from ASU, then Arizona is a great place to make your start, otherwise, I recommend Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. These places are best.

Very True Soul 4 Real!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To many come wanting to make AZ like the state they left. I 4 1 have more use for illegals then people moving here wanting to changs us

Alright first you gotta know that Arizona is a beautiful place! But its very different then Michigan. First off in many parts of Arizona it DOESN'T snow (so give away most of your winter clothes except the pants or jackets)... except if you go to Flagstaff or Williams. Prepare for the heat in the summer because every year we can go well above 110 degrees so pack a lot of shorts. Other than that enjoy Arizona! :D Hope you have a great time moving here! YAY for another citizen of Arizona! Also traffic on our freeways such as the I-10 get crowded quickly so if you do have a morning job then I suggest you get up really early!

I'm thinking of relocating to Tucson or Phoenix, Arizona and would appreciate some help with resources, etc.
I currently live in Asheville, NC, but would like to move out west before the turn of the new year. I'm looking for information on the two cities -- especially matters of GLBT community and culture. City reviews, ease of moving, culture and community, schools of natural based healing, etc. would be so much appreciated.

What is it exactly that you want to know? I live in phoenix. Tucson is more a University city. Phoenix is more a business city. They are completely different. I've lived in both. Rent is cheaper in Tucson. Around 650 a month when in Phoenix is about 850 a month (at least) in a decent place, not fancy not in the dangerous area of the city.

Hi, I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago, and love living in Phoenix. I would try the Phoenix website www.Phoenix.gov. Also, my neighborhood had a street fair earlier this year, and I think one of the city agencies was giving out a book titled "Where to live in Phoenix". I was surprised they were giving it away, since it looked like something you might buy at a bookstore, had an ISBN number/bar code on it, and a retail value of $24.95. Write a note to the city and see if they can give you one. It's really a good book, because it encompasses the entire metro area (known as "the valley") and talks about what makes each of the suburbs unique. As for GLBT info, may I suggest Echo Magazine. Its website is www.Echomag.com and is published bi-weekly. It also has a community resources section, and a number of realtors advertise in it. Healthcare is big business here, and so is associated fields related to the body, such as massage therapy, spas, and beauty colleges.

What Bob Phx said. If you do not have a job, the first thing is GET AN Arizona drivers license and Arizona plates for your car. I used to do hiring & firing, if the person was NOT a resident of AZ for six months with those items, I would not consider them ,no matter how qualified. Your not going to like summers. You may think NC is hot, you ain't seen nothin yet for hot. We visited in July (from Michigan) before deciding we could cope with the heat. Don't let "median" temperatures fool you-for months the low at night MAY be 94 F....daytime days on end over 112-115.

4
I've been here 2 years and why anyone from NC would want to move here is beyond me. It's extremely hot, extremely crowded, high crime everywhere, ridiculous traffic, terrible drivers, etc. Tuscon is the lesser of 2 evils. I wish I was back in the country. It's just going to get worse here.

Pros: Fun, fun, fun city....lots to do, lots of college age folks. Cons: Hot, hot, hot city....CRAZY hot. You will have fun at School in Phoenix.....good luck!! ;)

2
move to tempe....go to asu, its a good college town area, phx is wack, lived there for a few months and i thought i was going to go crazy, its awful...a def con is the heat, dry unbearable heat (even if you hate the cold, trust me, phx heat is too much), another con is the night life, yet another con is the distance you have to drive to get anywhere.... tempe has a good night life/bar scene....good luck...

3
well your gonna have to look forward to the heat which hits over 100 degrees, one up side is if you are going to buy a house out in az you can get a lot for your money.

4
I live north of Phoenix and it gets hot. In the summer we get monsoon storms but it only last between July and August not bad temps get high but it a "dry heat" don't get all sticky like some other states. The traffic can be bad but like any large city. Phoenix has a lot to offer job wise and fun wise. We have sports and lots of concerts and shows that come here. I would say most winters its not too cold a sweatshirt is most of the time all you would need, if you miss the cold the snow is only about 2 1/2 hours away

5
i move to Phoenix from South DAkota to escape the cold winters an d i m ready to move back, It HOT, the cost off living is high from SD, and everything is a Rush, the traffic is terrible, and people are rude! not all, but the majority, i moved with my family, I suppose if it were only me it might be diffrent, maybe even fun.

6
My family moved there in '84. They wouldn't think of coming back to Michigan until September to get some tomatoes. Lots of stuff to do in the Phoenix area. Beautiful. Just don't go to the south side or Sky Harbor airport neighborhoods.Lots of illegals there. Crazy drivers in Phoenix. They will honk at you for NOT running a red light!! Great downtown, Scotsdale, Mesa. You would like it. My wife would never move. I would've if I could've!!

7
Everyone has been moving here, so besides being extremely hot and over 110 degrees lately (and it will get hotter than that in the next couple of months) it is very crowded, the traffic is horrible, there's lots of crime, etc. But there is a lot to do in the area.

How do I become a resident of California If i live in Phoenix?

For school purposes you must live about a year in the State to be consider a cAlifornia resident. You might be able to qualify for loans and scholarships as a non-resident of the state, but I do not know if the school is going to charge more fees for not being a resident. So, the loan might not cover the full amount. Another thing you can do to get the resident status is-if you are not independent- whomever is living with you and supporting you can claim the residency part. For instance, if you are living with your dad in Arizona, but move in with your mom in California, as long as she has been living in CA for at least a year and she supports you, she can request for you to be consider a resident of CA. Hope it helps.

2
Yes you have to live here for a year prior to your date of application to college. If you know someone here you can say you have been living here and use their address, as long as it does not clash with your being in Arizona during that time.

3
While there is a California Township in Michigan, my guess is that the "MI" is a misprint, or something, since there is no school there. I guess you are interested in the State of California. If you are under 18, your residence is that of your parents. If you are 18 or over, just living in CA as a student is NOT going to make you a resident for tuition purposes. At a minimum, unless you are married or 24 years old, you will have to prove financial independence from your parents. Check out this site, and be sure to follow the links for further information: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/ca_residency.html However, for other purposes you may be a resident (if 18 or over) if you demonstrate an intent to remain in CA permanently and not return to AZ. BTW, claiming that you lived in California when you did not would be fraud and/or perjury. I don't recommend it.

Arizona is not a state I think of when I think of good schools for graduate degrees. Throw a dart at the map of the US, and you are likely to hit a state with at least one school that is better than anything in Arizona. Aim for the East Coast, and you are likely to hit a state with several schools that are better. That being said, University of Arizona is the best university in the state. There are a few programs -- like Business -- where ASU is better.

You managed to find the two bigots on here to answer your question. You didn't say what part of town you will be moving to, but I think that you will find that Phoenix is just like any other big city. I'm not sure why you are concerned about race but Arizona is made up of a very diverse population of Caucasian, Latino, Native American, African American and many Asian people as well. Arizona is a lovely place to live, it's just like most big cities in that it has a lot to offer, but it's also made up neighborhoods where you are able to find most things within five-ten miles of your home. It's always tough to start a new school, particularly when you are a senior in high school. I would recommend that you join clubs, try out for athletics or if you like drama do the school plays. The more things you join the more people you can connect with. Good luck and enjoy Phoenix!

No offence but anyone who lets a random strager off the internet babysit there child must literally be insane. Maybe you could try putting up some notices in your local supermarket or doing a flyer drop in your area. Also word of mouth is usually the best method. Ask your teacher if she knows of anyone who may be looking for a sitter, or even spread the word with other teachers. I know that personally would never leave my daughter with a stranger.

I doubt it is that easy unless there are a few of you capable of doing the subjects, I'd speak to a careers person or start contacting other schools to try to find one that offers it. When you do find one ask them if they can offer any assistance with travel costs. You might find some sort of scholarship you can sit for that can help with this.

2
Your school must be approved as an IB world school before teaching any IB courses. If you really want to have IB in your school: 1. See if there are other students in your school that would be interested. I doubt your school would be willing to spend thousands of dollars to train teachers and provide the courses if not too many students are interested. 2. Talk to your school officials (like your principal) about it, and have them apply to become a candidate and get evaluated. http://www.ibo.org/diploma/become/ 3. If your school gets accepted after evaluation, teachers that will be teaching the courses will have to go through training. An IB coordinator will also be appointed at your school, whom will be in charge of all things IB related there.

San Diego, is closer to Mexicali that Phoenix. San Diego is about 60 miles. Phoenix is about double that distance. Rent, when I lived in that area, was about 100 dollars a month. That was quite a while ago, so you might want to make a visit to Mexicali, and ask around about available apartments and rental price. Unless you are a Latino who speaks Spanish from childhood, you can expect to pay "Gringo prices" on everything. If they know your income is from this side of the border, they will raise the price on you, just because they think you are rich. If you are planning on a wife from Mexico, expect to have to keep her expenditures in line, and do not allow her to handle the money. At least not until she learns that your money has limits. Poor people who are not accustomed to having larger sums of money, tend to think they are rich, and spend the money less frugally than they should. Next thing you know, money that should have lasted you all month, is gone in a few days. Also, if you try to buy things in quantities, to save money, a Mexican spouse will think that there is an unlimited amount of that thing and start giving it away to friends and/or family. You will have to shop around for other prices on almost everything. Some things will be cheaper for you to pick up at a major grocery store chain in San Diego, other things will be cheaper in Mexicali. Also, if you have not lived in that area, you are going to learn a new meaning for the word HOT. Summers are nasty hot down there, averaging around 125 degrees Fahrenheit 2 months out of the year.

I would go with a no for now unless you do REALLY WELL on your MCAT...

2
My answer it is too early to know because admission to medical school depends on your grades at university as your high school grades are irrelevant. With that said if you were to make a competing argument that high school grades are predictor of future success then my answer would be you need to ensure that your grades stabilize and you do not have wide swings in your semester GPA. Based on using your grades for predicting future success I would say you are in danger of not being accepted.

3
Med school comes after college, Mick. You have 6 more years of schooling before you'll be ready to study medicine.

4
The short answer is yes, it is possible. Just try to hone your study habits right now in high school, so you will be prepared for college. Your four years in college and MCAT scores will determine if you can achieve your medical school dream. Study hard now!

i used to live in arizona,im from michigan.when i was there i decided to do schooling online but then i got bored and a little jealous when i saw other kids leaving school and hanging out.so i quit the online school and went to westview high school.after school everyone would hang at like the local McDonald's or Burger King or whatever fast food place was near.the movie theaters is also another place and other kids were always having house parties.i lived by glendale by the cardinals stadium.your lucky i wish i could move back to arizona because there is this school in Tolleson(i think its in tolleson) that does night school and day.and the best part is you get to pick how many classes you wanna take a day and there is never any school on fridays.(sorry,to much info) but staying at home does get boring.im not sure which side of phoenix u live in but you should try regular school.ur choice but have fun,LUCKY.! enjoy the weather oh yea i forgot to ask.! are you mexican? if you are it will be easier for you to find friends if you get home schooled or go to school.just hang where you see teens.Hope you find friends.!!

What is it like living in Phoenix, Arizona

What is it like living in Phoenix, Arizona?
My husband and I would like to move to phoenix Arizona within the next year and half or two years. Is it worth living there? Is the cost of living expensive? How is the housing there? Do more people live in apartments or in regular houses? Are the schools there good? What about churches? We also need a great Non-denominational or baptist church. Any suggestions, advice, etc welcome :) oh yeah, sorry for all the questions, but we are from central Pennsylvania and don't know much about the area. Details , please :)

Its nicer than pennsylvania thats for sure

2
It is beautiful!! It would definitely be worth it. It is very hot though, so be prepared for that. Housing is pretty pricey there, you could probably get a nice 4 bed 3 bath 2 car garage for $450-500k. Most people typically live in regular houses, but if an apartment is what you want, then go for it!! I would just want to be making payments on a house that you own , and get something in return, should you sell it. An apartment is like flushing $$$ down the toilet. There are tons of schools in Phoenix, I'm sure there are some very good schools there. Churches, once again, are like schools. There are many, many, many!!! Just when you get to Phoenix, ask around for a non-denominational or baptist church. Just try some out, and find one with nice people and programs, that you like. Definitely move, if you can afford it. It will cost a pretty penny, but if money is not a problem, you will not regret it!

3
the biggest thing is the heat, today will be 101, no real big trees for shade, lots of apartment, seems like there on every block, we live in one, 739 for a 2 bed 1 bath. equal amount of houses and apartments, lots of churches, they can be found just about on every other block as well.... lots of schools, jobs are few now unless u are a nurse, but that could change by the time u get here, lots of stores., 4 Walmarts very close to us and 2 Fry's ,1 Safeway, everything u need....more stores then houses

There is a very nice baptist church called North Phoenix Baptist Church on 5757 North Central Avenue. The pastor Dan Yeary has a very nice service every Sunday. As for the schools, you can learn about the great schools Phoenix has to offer for public, private and charter schools at www.phoenix.gov/EDUCATN/schdist.html

In PA you could probably manage a personal care home but not a nursing facility. I would call and talk to some directors at Personal Care Homes, and consider working towards your bachelor's b/c there is a need for health care administrators and they pay is good, but you do have a lot of headaches.

Chandler (not downtown), or Gilbert are pretty good areas. All have very good schools and are very family friendly! Stay away from Phoenix (ghetto) and Tempe ( party area because of the college) if your looking for a place to raise kids.

2
We are also looking to move to Arizona and I have also been doing some research. I'd like to suggest that you check out Goodyear, Surprise and Litchfield Park - all north northwest of Phoenix. Good luck!

3
Good areas suggested. Work, unless your college educated medical or technology there is no, I repeat no work in Maricipa county.

4
One more area to add to the mix is the North Peoria, North Glendale area...the Northwest side of the city. Peoria, especially the north side of Peoria, has two new High Schools, new k-9 schools with full day kindergarten for now, great shopping, a wonderful brand new Library and neighborhood pool that is open. Our kids were small when we moved here. They received a great education and have all gone on to finish college. Welcome to our state

5
I recently moved to Queen Creek which is southeast of phoenix. I LOVE it here. Its close enough to the amenities, but also far enough to have that small town feel. The rent here is also less than some of the cities that are closer to downtown phoenix.

6
Comparative school information is published. An on line search should give you some good insights. Last time I looked, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley have the best schools in the State. Scottsdale is a large town - and not all schools are created equally within. I believe that Desert Mountain is the best high school for college bound students (high SAT scores and an IB program). It's zip code is 21659.

There are other photo classes give at other CC's such as Scottsdale CC (commercially oriented) and Phoenix CC with included forensic studies. Just do a search for photo classes available at the CC's in the Valley.

I'm moving to Phoenix, Arizona in about 5 years...?

I'm moving to Phoenix, Arizona in about 5 years...?
I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I am currently planning on moving my life from New York City, to Phoenix Arizona. I just have a few questions so can anyone please help? - How much is rent for a one bedroom apartment? -Are jobs difficult to find? How much is an airline flight from New York City to Arizona? -Is it really warm all year round? For the most part, New York is freezing and cold. Thanks a million!

Unfortunately, Phoenix is set to self destruct in 3 years. Seriously, answering these questions for five years from now is just not going to work. There is no way to tell if the job situation will improve (we have 9% official unemployment right now, which is a real unemployment rate of about 18%). There is no way to tell you rents, because they may go up or down.Currently, a decent one bedroom goes for about $500 to $700 per month. But you can rent an entire house for about $800 per month right now. And if you can come up with a downpayment, buying a house would result in a mortgage cheaper than that. There is no way to tell airline flight prices either. Five months from now might be predictable. Five years, no. As for warm all year round, all I can say is that it has been warm all year as long as humans have inhabited the area (the last 700 years) but one never knows if that is going to change either. Ask Al Gore. Temperature today was about 75o Farenheit. Temperature in July is 115o Temperature in August 100o and humid.

2
I'm sure our rent is cheaper than NYC, but you need to ask that question when you are ready to move. Jobs - right now the economy is less than desirable here and everywhere else. One can hope things will improve. Airline flights? That changes all the time - check for deals when you are ready to come out here. Is it really warm all year round? Well, yes. We are called "the valley of the sun" for a good reason. The summers are very hot and will take a little while for you to acclimate. Luckily about everything is air conditioned.

3
Apartments are pretty cheap in Phx, definitely amazingly cheap compared to NYC. You can find one for as low as $400 for a cheapy one, $700 or so for something nicer. Jobs are difficult to find anywhere right now, but fortunately it's a huge city, so there's tons of businesses around, you'll find something somewhere in the city even if you have a bit of a commute. It's not really "warm" all year round. It's warm in the spring and fall, and freakishly hot in the summer. In the summer, it's a high of at least 105 most days. (Often up to 115). In the winter, it gets chillier, it's been raining a lot lately. Not too cold, just a bit chilly. It only goes below freezing a few nights each winter, and it snows about once every 5-10 years.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Living in the Phoenix City, Arizona?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Living in the Phoenix City, Arizona?
Please help me, I really need opinions from other people for my presentation in school. Thanks in advance!
Phoenix - 7 Answers

1
disadvantage: it's kind of crowded in there...and hot advantage: a lot of shopping malls, University of Phoenix is there

2
I dont know, but ive been wondering the same thing cuz im going to arizona state when i get done with junior college...from what Ive been told its pretty cool to live there. ive passed though a couple times lots of malls, clubs, great college town, young

3
Advantages: If you like the heat, this is a good place to go. No rain/snow and tolerable winters...all i can think of right now since all of those "advantages" i listed are disadvantages in my opinion (i hate the heat and love rain and snow). oh, you can go swimming a lot :D Disadvantages: Fast-growing area, pollution, crowded, many red lights ran, heat (again, this could be an advantage or disadvantage). No beaches, no amusement parks.

4
Advatages: The weather is great in the winter and spring. Easy to find a job. Disadvantages: A lot of people. The heat in the summer is way too much.

5
What's good is jobs are good paying out here. I can't say anything bad about it I moved here a week ago.

6
These are some advantages of living in the city of Phoenix: Housing and Rent is not ridiculous, lots of jobs, plenty of entertainment, the gang activity is not as bad as other big cities, lots of hot women, no tornadoes/earthquakes/snow storms or hurricanes, you can make weekend trips to Vegas, California or Mexico, flights out to these places are cheap from Phoenix. Disadvantages: Very hot summers (only good about that, girls wear less clothing), traffic congestion, smog, dusty, no real cultural diversity (no china town, little Italy etc...), no beach, bad football team and Red Light Cameras.

7
well i am 19 and have lived here since i was 6 (i moved from the northeast) the disadvantages are...the 110 degree weather during the summer (unless you like hot weather), it's VERY crowded and driving is HORRIBLE, and there is lots of violence, gang, and vandalism problems (unless you live in a good area which those are becoming few and few). The advantages however are the weather from like March to May is really nice and you can pretty much swim for 8-9 months out of the year, there is always something to do since it's such a big city, and there is TONS to do in the state alone without much driving time. Oh and during the winter you can drive 2 hours to Flagstaff and play in the snow then come back home and have 70 degree weather. It's pretty sweet. Hope it helped!

Gold coast in Glendale is a good place. They had a Cessna that I used to rent from them, so I spent a lot of time with them. I never flew in one of their helicopters, but I did get to know a lot of the instructors there and they are all a bunch of good guys. Their business policies are great also. They are involved (or at least a few years ago were) with a bunch of commercial helicopter operations doing things like filming for movies and tv shows, they had a few over seas contracts also. The flight school was not a money making venture for them (they didn't loose money either), it was more of a passion of the owner to help out people wanting to learn to fly helicopters. A big plus to this type of company is you have a foot in the door with the company. You may not get a job with them when you are done, but knowing people in the industry opens other doors for you. I have flown at a lot of different places and this honestly is one of the best places you can end up at. Do your research, but do check them out.
